Paul & Michele
As many of you know, we were honored and blessed that Paul and Michele came to our wedding and that we got to explored Thailand together, at the beginning of their incredible adventure. They have rented out their condo in Brooklyn and are in the process of moving to Portland, Oregon, via Thailand, Laos, Vietnam, Nepal and Japan. They have had a bit of trouble posting to their blog from Vietnam, and we got this note from them:
From: Paul
Date: Mar 20, 2006
Subject: Shutdown in Viet Nam
To: Greetings all. While we find ourselves in the most capitalist country we've ever been in -everyone attempting to make money from us in every possible fashion at every possible turn - it is also still a communist country with very tight state control on speech and information. We're not sure how we managed to access our blog in Hanoi, but subsequent attempts to log in have been blocked everywhere. If you've left comments, we haven't been able to read them. From what I can tell on the web, Viet Nam has set the model for blocking blogs (to prevent them from spreading political dissent, I guess?) that has subsequently been followed by China and Pakistan. Let's hope this combination of free enterprise without free speech is not a model for the future USA. Anyhow, we're in Hoi An right now. A charming little town with an amazing beach. Will probably head south in a day or two in search of more remote beach action before heading to the mountains of Nepal.
More later when/if we can...Paul & Michele
